Donald Watson, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2024, in Shepherd, Texas, at the age of 90. Born on September 7, 1933, in Wellington, Texas, Donald lived a life filled with music, love, and a profound commitment to his family.
He married his cherished wife, Shirley Mae Watson, on October 15, 1951, Donald’s heart was anchored in their bond until her passing in 2019. Together, they nurtured a family that would grow to encompass six children, each a testament to the love and dedication they shared. Donald's proudest accomplishments include not only his wonderful children but also the legacy of love that continues through his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.He is survived by his loving children: Linda Williams, Donna Brock and her husband Alex, and John Watson. His grandchildren—Melissa Sprinkles, Tammy Farmer and her husband Jim, Shirley Jo Banhagle and her husband Bruce, Michelle Watson, Michael Watson, Tara Watson, Donald Beaty, Darrell Beaty, Dawn Beaty, Daniel Eugene Beaty, Little John Watson, Chase Watson, and Clay Watson—carry forward his spirit in their hearts.
His heart was forever tied to his beloved wife, Shirley Mae Watson. Together they shared a beautiful journey filled with laughter and music. His proudest accomplishment was the loving family they built together, which served as his greatest legacy. Donald is survived by his children—Linda Williams, Donna Brock and husband Alex, and John Watson—along with grandchildren who carry his spirit forward: Melissa Sprinkles, Tammy Farmer and husband Jim, Shirley Jo Banhagle and husband Bruce, Michelle Watson, Michael Watson, Tara Watson, Donald Beaty, Darrell Beaty, Dawn Beaty, Daniel Eugene Beaty, Little John Watson, Chase Watson, and Clay Watson. He was also the proud grandfather of numerous great-grandchildren, all of whom knew him as a source of strength and joy.
A man of many interests, Donald found solace and happiness in playing the guitar, singing, and creating music throughout his life. His hands, skilled in woodworking, crafted beautiful pieces that spoke of his passion and dedication. He delighted in fishing, relished the thrill of boxing, and enjoyed the camaraderie of golfing, especially in his earlier years. Now, he joins his beloved wife, Shirley, and his dear departed family, including his parents, Virgil Watson and Zenna B. Skillern, his children Michael Ray Watson, Larry Dean Watson, and Rocky Joe Watson, along with his sisters Mary Ethridge, Barbara Horsak, and Anne Skillern, as well as an infant brother and granddaughter, Donna Kay Cloud.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during a graveside service on August 28, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Farley Chapel Cemetery, located at 5511 Farm to Market 2666, Shepherd, Texas, 77371. Amidst sorrow, there will also be a celebration of a life well-lived, one that touched many hearts and left an indelible mark on the fabric of those who loved him .Rest in peace, Donald Watson.
