Gary David Squyres, born on December 22, 1969, in Alexandria, Louisiana, departed this world on October 24, 2024. He was a man of vibrant spirit and boundless enthusiasm, leaving a lasting impact on all those fortunate enough to know him.
He found joy in the sounds of bluegrass and southern gospel music. A passionate outdoorsman, he cherished days spent bass fishing, camping, and reveling in the beauty of nature. His love for life was infectious, and he embraced every opportunity for new experiences and adventures. He could talk to anyone! His friendly demeanor and welcoming spirit made him a quick friend to anyone he met. David also enjoyed a good ride down a long back road - that was the Louisiana boy in him!
He is survived by his devoted wife of 27 years, Athena Hydes Squyres, who shared in his love for life and adventure. David leaves behind his parents, Gary Don Squyres and Barbara Sue Squyres, as well as his brother, Don Kile Squyres. He will also be remembered fondly by his mother-in-law, Linda Hydes, and his beloved dog daughter, Rouxgis. In addition, numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family members, and a host of treasured friends will carry his memory forward.
David is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ellen and David Strother, Joyce Byrd Rayburn, and Benjamin Squyres; his cousin, Amy Watson; his aunt, JoAnn Stokes; and his father-in-law, Joseph Wilson Hydes III.
As we celebrate the life of Gary David Squyres, let us reflect on the joy he brought to our lives, the laughter he shared, and the adventures still awaiting us in his memory. His vibrant spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him, reminding us to embrace life’s journeys with open hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Cremation services will be held under the caring direction of Neal Funeral Home.
