Obituary

George Lee Stubblefield, age 85, of Splendora, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026. Born on September 28, 1940, George lived a life defined by hard work, quiet strength, and an unwavering devotion to his family. He was a man who never sought recognition or praise, preferring instead to let his actions speak for him. Steady, dependable, and wise, George taught those around him life's most important lessons, not through words, but through the example he set every day.

George spent much of his life working outdoors. In his early years, he worked as a logger. Later, he became a truck driver, hauling for Weingarten & and Travis Bishop. He took pride in his work and was known for being dependable, honest, and hardworking.

George was devoted to his beloved wife, Joyce, for 66 years. They were a memorable pair, both tall and strong in spirit, raising two daughters who inherited those same qualities. George and Joyce created a home where family and friends were always welcome. There was always a pot of coffee on and Paw Paw’s Beans to share.

Above all else, George loved his family. He was happiest when surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved rocking babies, teaching the kids how to fish and piddle around outside, tending to his chickens, and back porch sitting. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him a great deal of joy and will carry his memory with them always.

Raised in the Trinity River bottom, George developed a lifelong love of the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing with family, gardening, and a whetstone. He was rarely idle and could often be found working, fixing, building, or tinkering with something. Anyone who knew George knew he was a man of habit and consistency. He was rarely seen wearing anything other than his trademark attire: a white cotton T-shirt, a long-sleeved blue pearl-snap button-down shirt, blue jeans, and boots. It was a look that became as familiar and dependable as George himself.

George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce Stubblefield; his father, E.J. Stubblefield Jr.; his mother, Bernice Bartee Stubblefield; his daughters, Bridges Stubblefield and Brandy Jenkins; his sister, Lillie Gore; and his brothers, Jakie Stubblefield and Rusty Stubblefield.

He leaves behind his son-in-law, Roy Jenkins; his sister-in-law, Fran Boyett; his grandchildren, Lane Jenkins and wife Taylor, Laken Kilgore and husband Oren, Beau Jenkins, Britney Glover and husband Matthew, and Brandon Moore. He was a proud great-grandfather to Kayden Jenkins, Kenley Jenkins, Emerson Jenkins, Rhett Jenkins, Kelly Kilgore, Otto Kilgore, Hank Kilgore, Walker Jenkins, Camden Glover, Hudson Glover, Weston Moore, and Caroline Moore. George is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of dear friends who will miss his steady presence and unwavering friendship.

George endured the loss of both of his daughters and, later, Joyce, his beloved wife of 66 years. He missed them deeply and carried that loss quietly, but those who knew him could see the space they left in his heart. Today, we find comfort in believing that he is at peace and reunited with the family he loved so dearly.
