James Elvin Welch

James "Jim" Elvin Welch, was born on November 21, 1935, in Livingston, Texas.  He went to be with his Heavenly Father on April 23, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and service. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who touched the lives of many through his unwavering commitment to family and faith.

Jim had a diverse professional career. He and his twin brother, Bill, were the proud Owners and Operators of Welch & Welch Welding and Fabrication, showcasing their expertise and entrepreneurial spirit. They built and formed multiple sand mining locations around the greater Houston area that are still in operation after more than 50 years.

A proud military veteran, Jim served in the Army during the Korean conflict, exhibiting bravery and a strong sense of duty to his country. His devotion extended beyond his military service, as he considered his faith to be one of his proudest accomplishments. He was a faithful servant to the Lord and exemplified his beliefs in all aspects of his life.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Jim had a rich personal life filled with hobbies and interests that brought him joy. Jim loved gardening and hay production. He also took pride in raising Registered Red Angus cows, a testament to his passion for agriculture and farm life.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Jo Ann Welch. Together, they built a beautiful family, which includes their children: Dana Pittman and her husband Mark, David Welch and his wife Michelle, and Paul Welch and his wife Jessica. He was a loving grandfather to his grandchildren: Codi Davis and her husband Brad, Zach Welch and his wife Allison, Josh Welch and his wife McKenzie, Haily Trotter and her husband Kenny, Olivia Welch, Carley Welch, Chloe Welch, Carter Welch, Payden Counts and his fiancé Piper, and Tatum Counts. Jim also cherished his role as a great-grandfather to Asher, Raelynn, Micah, Raine, Dawson, Riley, Landon, Pyper, Vivianne, McKayl, Quincy, Meredith, and Jaxson. Jim is also survived by many loving relatives and a host of friends who will forever remember his kind heart and generous spirit. 

He was preceded in death by his father, A.L. Welch; his mother, Ruby Garland Welch; his brother, Bill Welch; his sister, Nora Ruth Guthrie; and his friend and Pastor, Jimmie Clemmons.

As we reflect on James "Jim" Elvin Welch’s life, we celebrate a man devoted to his family, his community, and his faith. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he impacted throughout his journey.

A visitation in honor of Jim's life will be held at North Main Baptist Church, 4709 North Main, Liberty, Texas 77575, on Monday, April 28, 2025, from 6:00PM to 9:00PM.  Funeral services will be held the following day, Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 1:00PM, North Main Baptist Church, 4709 North Main, Liberty, Texas  77575. Interment will immediately follow the services at Cooke Memorial Cemetery, 1906 Lakeland Dr., Liberty, Texas  77575
