Johnny Leon Abbott, born on September 26, 1953, to Lester Leon Abbott and Beverly Ann Hughes Abbott in Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2024, in Cleveland, Texas, leaving behind a legacy marked by love, creativity, and deep craftsmanship. A remarkable man, Johnny was highly skilled in woodworking, having dedicated his life to perfecting this art. He established his own woodworking business, Woodcrafters Shoppe, which not only showcased his unparalleled talent but also became a testament to his commitment to quality and craftsmanship. Those who received his beautiful creations—pieces handcrafted with care—will continue to cherish the memories associated with each unique gift.
Johnny loved his life with passion for the Lord, his family, and his love of working with wood. Not only did he enhance his own home with his woodworking skills, but he had the gift of making a customer’s dream a reality. Johnny’s greatest passion was teaching his trade to many young people in his family and community.
Educated at New Caney High School, Johnny formed lifelong friendships that remained vibrant until his final days. His his generous spirit and love of helping people drew others to him creating a strong community around him where love and support flourished.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife, Mary Charleen Abbott of Cleveland, who stood by him throughout their journey together. He leaves behind his brothers, Howard Wayne Abbott of Cleveland, Ronald Abbott of Houston, and Timothy (Pam) Abbott of Grangerland, along with his sister, Belinda Abbott Pipes (Jimmy) of Martinsville, Texas. His legacy continues through his six beloved children: Tallion Leon Abbott of Harlingen, Cheyney Ray Abbott (Julie) of Bryan, Carime Lynn Abbott (Lonnie) of New Caney, Sarah Michelle Abbott (Joseph) of Slaton, John Paul Abbott (Diann) of Cleveland, and Katie Ann Abbott (Tony Espinoza) of Cleveland.
Not only did Johnny's life touch those he held dear, but he also took immense pride in being a grandfather. His grandchildren, including Clayton Abbott of Cleburne, Jessica Abbott of Burleson, E4 Justin Abbott (serving in the US Airforce overseas), Cash, Alyson, and Ashlyn Abbott of Cleveland, Leo Meurer of Slaton, Wyatt Espinoza of Cleveland, and Violet Abbott of Bryan, were his pride and joy. Furthermore, Johnny was blessed with three great-grandchildren, further expanding the circle of love that he nurtured throughout his life.
Though Johnny's spiritual journey has taken him to sit now with our Lord Jesus Christ, his family takes comfort in knowing he is free from pain and the ravages of cancer. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his talents, his love, and the countless lives he touched with his warmth and kindness.
Services to honor Johnny's beautiful life will take place at Neal Funeral Home located at 200 S Washington Ave, Cleveland, TX. Visitation will be held on October 22, 2024, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, followed by a funeral service on October 23, 2024, starting at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Morgan Cemetery, with the family gathering there at 12:30 PM for the final farewell.
Johnny Abbott leaves behind an indelible mark on all who knew him, a testament to resilience, artistry, and the power of love.
