Joyce Stubblefield

Lillie Joyce Stubblefield, lovingly known as "Maw Maw" to her family , was a cherished wife, devoted mother, beloved grandmother, and treasured sister, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on April 7, 1940 in Splendora, Texas. Joyce embraced life to the fullest, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Joyce spent over a decade as a dedicated clerk for the Splendora Water Department, where she was known as a force to be reckoned with. Someone who got things done and didn't take any nonsense. Reliable and steady, she was the person people could count on, and friends and colleagues regularly stopped by her office just to visit. Her commitment to helping others extended far beyond her professional life, as she guided those around her with love and genuine care.

Known for being fiercely loyal and protective of her family, Joyce was also wonderfully stubborn and willful—traits that served her well when she set her sights on the tall, handsome man who would become her husband. When she first saw George Lee, she knew with absolute certainty she would marry him, and with characteristic determination, she pursued him until she won his heart. Their love story became a 65-year testament to the power of knowing what you want and going after it.

Joyce's home was the beating heart of her family, where her door was always open and the coffee pot was always on. Family and friends loved to stop by for a visit, knowing they'd be welcomed with open arms and genuine warmth. She was the master of family gatherings, hosting Thanksgiving dinners for over 50 family members each year, where her famous dressing was the star of the table. Her legendary "Cookie Party" brought all the children together every Christmas to make her special Christmas cookies, creating sweet memories that will last generations.

When it came to adventure, Joyce loved nothing more than hitting the road with her family for epic road trips across the United States. These journeys were filled with laughter, shenanigans, and the kind of memories that became family legends, whether they were crashing track meets or just enjoying each other's company mile after mile. These trips showcased Joyce's adventurous spirit and her gift for turning any journey into an unforgettable experience.

A remarkable creator, Joyce transformed George's worn-out jeans and other fabrics into beautiful quilts, lovingly crafted for each member of her family. These quilts were more than just fabric; they were stitched memories, embodying the warmth of Joyce's heart and the love she poured into her family.

Joyce will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years, George Lee Stubblefield. Together, they created a harmonious life filled with love and laughter. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Lane Jenkins and wife Taylor, Laken Kilgore and husband Oren, Beau Jenkins, Britney Glover and husband Matthew, and Brandon Moore, who will miss her nurturing spirit and encouraging words. Her great-grandchildren, Kayden Jenkins, Kenley Jenkins, Emmy Jenkins, Rhett Jenkins, Kelly Kilgore, Otto Kilgore, Walker Jenkins, Camden Glover, Hudson Glover, Weston Moore, and Caroline Moore, will carry forward her love in their hearts and memories.

Joyce is also survived by her sister Fran Boyett, son-in-law Roy Jenkins, and sister-in-law Nelleen Wells, who will hold her close in their thoughts and prayers.

She rejoins her daughters, Bridges Stubblefield and Brandy Jenkins, who predeceased her. While the loss of her two children was an unimaginable heartbreak, we find comfort knowing she is now reunited with them. She also joins her parents Ross Wells and Rebecca Hayden Wells, and siblings Raymond Wells, Keith Wells, Darwin Wells, Eddie Prestridge, Anna Norris, and Dotty LeBlanc. Their reunion brings comfort to those left behind.

The family invites those who knew and loved Joyce to a visitation from 12:00 PM to 2:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm on July 15, 2025, at Neal Funeral Home located at 200 South Washington Avenue, Cleveland, Tx. Together, let us celebrate the life of a remarkable woman who filled our lives with joy and love, and whose memory will forever be a quilt of solace and warmth in our hearts.
