Leonard Huie Wood, of Texas City, Texas, entered into rest on August 19, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on August 15, 1944, in Pasadena, Texas, Leonard lived a life marked by steady work, service to his country, and enjoyment of the simple pleasures that brought him close to the outdoors and to those around him.

Leonard proudly served as a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. His service reflected a sense of duty and commitment that remained an important part of his life. Following those years, he went on to build a long working career and later retired from DOW Chemical, closing that chapter with the respect earned through dedication and perseverance.

Outside of work, Leonard found happiness in the activities he loved most. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing, pastimes that spoke to his appreciation for time spent outdoors and the quiet satisfaction of familiar pursuits. These interests helped shape many of the memories held by those who knew him.

Leonard is survived by his sisters, Valieta June Smith and husband Edward. He also leaves behind his nephew Donald Burkham, his nephew Michael Smith, and his niece Tamyra Lynn Gilster and husband Randall. His memory will live on as well in his grandnephews, Christian Burkham, Quintin Smith, his grandniece Haley Smith, his great-grandnephew, Jack Gilster and his great-grandniece Katherine Gilster. Each of them carries forward a connection to his life and the place he held in the family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Richard Jones; his mother, Velma Onez Callaway Jones; his grandfathers, Fred Callaway and Frank Wood; and his grandmother, Rose Wood.

Leonard will be remembered with affection for his service, his hardworking life, and the enjoyment he found in golf, hunting, and fishing. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved him.
