Mitchell (Rusty) Boyd Wilson

December 12, 1960 — May 30, 2021

Coldspring, Texas

Mitchell Boyd “Rusty” Wilson, 60, of Coldspring, Texas passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 30, 2021. He was born on December 12, 1960, in Austin, Texas to Charles Arch Wilson and Edna Louise Mitchell Wilson, both of whom have preceded him in death. Rusty was also preceded in death by his beloved son, Sgt. Wade Daniel Wilson. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Tamara Lynn Wilson; children from first wife, Chad Wilson, Alex Wilson and wife Kandace, Layne Wilson and fiancé Carter Davis, Curtis Wilson; step-children, Dustin Goodman and fiancé Christen, Cody Goodman and wife Sydney, Samantha Burns and husband David, Alicha Knepper and husband Chris; sisters, Claire Maxwell and husband Bill, Jan Magness and husband Al, Allison Parish, Robin Tacquard and husband Andy, Meredith Armbrust and husband Stephen; grandchildren, Jaydon Wilson, Race Wilson, Ainslee Wilson, Wade Wilson, Taylor Wilson, and Hayes Wilson; step-grandchildren, Ka'liah Goodman, Devin Goodman, Christian Goodman, Little Christian Goodman, Seth Goodman, Shane Goodman, Kaylynn Goodman, Arianna Goodman, Dylan Burns, Logan Burns, Braydn Moya, Julian Moya, Corbin Knepper; special father and mother figures George and Dixie Lowry along with many other loving family and treasured friends.

Rusty lived in Taylor, Texas until moving to Alvin, Texas in 1972. He graduated from Alvin High School in 1979 where he was an accomplished long distance track runner and won many awards during that time. He enjoyed reminiscing about the many adventures he had with his close-knit buddies from A.H.S. Rusty loved nature and animals, of which he had many throughout his life, including raccoons, skunks, snakes, dogs, and birds. He was baptized at and a member of Heights Baptist Church while growing up in Alvin.

Upon graduation, Rusty went to work for his mentor, eventual father-in-law, and respected friend George Lowry of Rebel Contractors, Inc., in 1979. He began at the bottom of the totem pole as a grease monkey learning every aspect of this dirt moving company and eventually becoming Vice-President in the later 80s and then President in 2017. During Rusty’s 42-year career with Rebel, he was known not only for being a very hard worker but also for his good work ethic. He was greatly respected by his 45 employees as well as the construction industry in general.

Rusty loved bragging about his kids to his friends, collecting old cars, and taking close friends out along with his dogs, Willie and Nelson, to his ranch in Rocksprings, TX, where he found peace and solace with nature. Rusty was always very patriotic; but after his son Sgt. Wade Wilson was KIA in Afghanistan, he became involved in various veteran groups with his time and support. He will be truly missed by many.
