Nema Shinn, a devoted pastor's wife and a beloved member of her community, passed away on June 15, 2025, in New Caney, Texas, at the age of 87. Born on October 19, 1937, in Houston, Texas, Nema’s life was marked by her unwavering faith, dedication to service, and deep love for her family and friends.
As a long-time member of Evergreen Baptist Church in Porter, Texas, Nema poured herself into various roles that furthered the church's mission and nurtured the faith of those around her. She served numerous terms as the President of the Women's Missionary Auxiliary and led many Vacation Bible Schools, sharing her passion for teaching and her love of the Lord with countless children. Additionally, Nema excelled as a Girls' Missionary Auxiliary leader, instilling values of service and faith in young lives. Nema's commitment as a faithful servant to the Lord was palpable in all she did, touching the lives of many.
Nema had many interests outside her church duties, with a special affection for cake decorating, a hobby that showcased her creativity and her joy in celebrating life's moments with those she loved.
She is survived by her children, Sandra Thomas and her husband Tommy, Michael Shinn and his wife Katrina, and Sherrie Kimbrough. Nema also cherished her role as a grandmother to Andrea Shinn, Dustin Shinn and his wife Katye, and Kyle Kimbrough. Additionally, she was a proud great-grandmother to Ava Shinn.
Nema was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Reverend Gene A. Shinn, with whom she shared a remarkable 70 years of marriage. She also reunited in spirit with her father, Weldon Brumley, her mother, Luna Brumley, her sisters, Bonita Miles and Kathy Wilson, and her grandson Zachary Kimbrough.
Nema Shinn's legacy is one of love, service, and faith. Her family and friends can find solace knowing she has gone home to meet her Heavenly Father, leaving behind a profound impact on all who had the privilege to know her.
Visitation will be held on June 19, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Neal Funeral Home, located at 200 South Washington Avenue, Cleveland, Texas. The funeral service will take place on June 20, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the same location. Interment will follow immediately at Pace-Stancil Memorial Rest Gardens.
