Ruby Vickery of Baytown, Texas passed away on July 22, 2026. She was born on September 23, 1935, in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama to Henry Haney and Annie Jenkins Haney. Her early childhood years were spent in a community then known as New Merkel, Alabama and later renamed Cahaba Heights. Like a lot of children growing up in the Depression, she learned the value of family and hard work. Ruby continued working well into her 70's. She quit working outside the home in her late 70's, spending her remaining years at home with a great granddaughter, Jocelyn LaBuff. Ruby and Jocelyn were inseparable. She was two months short of reaching her 91st birthday. As she aged, Ruby rejoiced in the fact she had attained an advanced age. Anyone speaking with her of late would hear her often proclaim how "blessed" she was for living long and doing so in such good health. She was delighted she could still get in her car and drive herself and Jocelyn around town. Even with the loss of 3 children, she managed a positive outlook and declared "the Lord will take me when He is ready". She passes that legacy onto her surviving family. She passed peacefully at her home.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Johnie, son Kenneth Vickery, son Roger Vickery, daughter Vickie LaBuff, and grandson Jesse Vickery. 

She is survived by her son Wayne Vickery (Bonnie) of Marion, Arkansas, and by 7 grandchildren: Stacey Greenwood (Craig) of Tupelo, Mississippi; Brian Pittman of Gladewater, Texas; Leigh Vickery of Plano, Texas; Alyson Perkins (Stuart) of Memphis, Tennessee; Colby Vickery of Jacksonville, Florida; Amy LaBuff of Baytown, Texas; and Jacee Moritz (Daniel) of Dayton, Texas. She is also survived by 9 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews along with other family members. 

The family will have a celebration of her life at a date to be announced.
