Obituary

Wanda Sue Martin, 79, of Shepherd, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on May 30, 2026.

Born on February 22, 1947, in Liberty, Texas, Sue spent most of her life in and around Shepherd, where she built a life centered on faith, family, and serving others. She was married to the love of her life, Mike Martin, for 50 years. Together they shared many wonderful adventures and made lots of memories together. Her most cherished adventure was the time spent in Hawaii while Mike served as an Hospital Corpsman in the United States Navy. More than anything, Sue loved the Lord and loved her family. She was the kind of person who was always looking for a way to help someone, encourage someone, feed someone, or make them smile. Her kitchen was often filled with the smell of something baking, and nobody ever left her house hungry.

Many people also remember Sue from “Sue’s Corner,” where she shared recipes, stories, and little pieces of cooking wisdom that became a favorite among friends and church family over the years. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with them, making memories, celebrating milestones, and simply being “MeMe.” They were the light of her life, and she never missed an opportunity to show them how much she loved them.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Dezso Martin; her parents, William “Sweet” Jones and Earline Jones; her twin daughters, Mandie Dawn and Mollie Doreen Martin; her brother, Donald R. Jones; and her sister, Sharon Johnson.

She is survived by her son, Michael A. Martin and wife Charity; her daughter, Melanie D. Collins and husband Sean; grandchildren Michael Dustin Martin and wife Ali, Savannah R. Ikerd and husband Cameron, Samantha F. Saintes and husband Logan, Jordan Hobgood and wife Leslie, Patrick Dishman and wife Yoci, and Jackson Hobgood; great-grandchildren Holland Banks Ikerd, Hudson Oliver Martin, and Bonnie Sue Dishman; along with many other family members, friends, and loved ones who will miss her dearly.

A public viewing will be held Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of her life at 11:00 a.m. at The Sanctuary of Cleveland, 100 E. Hanson Street, Cleveland, Texas 77327. Interment will follow at Farley Chapel Cemetery in Shepherd, Texas.

While our hearts are saddened by her passing, we rejoice knowing that Sue’s faith has become sight and that she is now reunited with loved ones who have gone before her. Her legacy of faith, love, kindness, and devotion to family will live on in all who knew her.
