Obituary

My name is Wanda Lounell Hall McNeil, and I went on to be with my Lord on October 9, 2026, at the age of 92. Growing up I had a great life in Sweeny Texas with my parents, Ella Mae Young Hall and Marshall Hall, and my two siblings Clifford and Elva. In high school I played basketball and softball, acted in plays, was on the pep squad, was in chorus, carried a saxophone in the band, and was the valedictorian.

After a great time in high school, I went off to Baylor University and used my teaching degree to teach English at Deer Park High School. I was a high school counselor there too, and then became a licensed professional counselor. I also played the organ and piano for my church.

I married Ralph McNeil after ten years as a single parent. We have been married for 58 years. This last year would have been impossible without his devotion, and the constant help of our neighbor, Lynette Croft.

My two children were Robin and Tim Coody. Ralph’s two children were Kim and Mark McNeil. Together we had many fun vacations at Schlitterbahn over the years. We have nine grandchildren from these four kids: Josh, Jacob and Jordan; Chase and Tanis; Cara and Brynn; and Hannah and Katherine. Great grands came along next: Violet and Liam; Silas, Charles, Ernest and Fred; Mark and Makenna; Noah and Sam; Eli and Josiah; Madalyn; Tyler, Abigail, and Caleb. We wouldn’t have had any of those treasures without the spouses that we came to love as our own. Wyndham, Laura, and Terri, Drew, Philip, John, Carrie, Adam, Meagan, Ashley and Emma. It made for a full house at the farm at Christmas.

We enjoyed our church family at South Main Baptist. I taught Sunday school, and was known for my entertaining letters to the homebound. We especially enjoyed our time with our Sunday school group, the Mavericks, and hosted many meals for them at the farm. Late in life, when the drive got to be too much, we joined Rural Shade Baptist.

I was known for my homemade yeast rolls and sour cream cakes – I must have made hundreds of those things. My daughter is frustrated that she could never master my butterscotch pie with a homemade pie crust, but she did learn to make my pralines.

Life has been very good for me. I have been blessed! To those who have preceded me, I am Home now. To those I leave behind, I leave this verse, because I really want you to join me in Heaven some day!

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

My going home celebration will be held at the Neal Funeral Home in Cleveland on Monday, October 12th at 11:00. My family would love to visit with you, if you come a little early.
